Project Description

In modern production environments, data is generated across different systems and protocols. The aim of the project was to develop a central solution that connects these data sources and enables continuous, automated processing.

The Initial Situation

Production data was distributed across different systems and formats, including PLCs, databases and various industrial protocols. A central interface was missing, so that data was not consistently available and only hard to use across systems.

The Challenge

  • Heterogeneous systems and protocols (OPC UA, Modbus, S7, SQL)
  • No central integration layer for data
  • Limited real-time availability of process data
  • Manual effort to consolidate data
  • Delayed detection of deviations and errors

The Solution

Universal Industry Connector

We developed a flexible integration platform that acts as a central interface between machines, control systems and IT systems.

  • Connection of OPC UA, Modbus, S7 and SQL systems
  • Freely configurable data sources and target systems
  • Real-time processing and synchronization of data
  • Event-driven processing (trigger logic)
  • Scalable architecture for industrial applications

Result

With the Industry Connector, a powerful and flexible solution has been created that bridges the gap between the machine level and IT systems. Central data availability combined with intelligent automation enables significantly better transparency, faster response times and sustainable optimization of production processes.

Industry Connector
Solution Overview

System design and key capabilities

Intelligent data processing & automation

A central feature of the Connector is the ability to selectively control and automate data flows.

  • Trigger-based logic: data is processed not only cyclically, but also event-driven – for example on state changes or threshold violations.
  • Alarm management:
  • When defined conditions occur (e.g. temperature deviations or process standstill), alarms are automatically triggered and responsible employees are informed.
  • Dynamic configuration: new data sources or targets can be integrated without significant development effort.

System architecture & integration

The Industry Connector was designed as a scalable and modular system architecture that integrates seamlessly into existing production and IT environments.

Thanks to the clear separation of data sources, processing and target systems, new systems can be flexibly connected and existing structures extended.

  • Modular and extensible system architecture
  • Seamless integration into existing systems
  • Separation of data sources and target systems
  • Support for distributed production environments

Typical use case

A common deployment scenario is the central capture of machine data: production data from different facilities is read out via various protocols and stored in an SQL database. This data is then available for:

  • Analyses
  • Reporting
  • Optimization of production processes

At the same time, the integrated alarm system ensures that critical conditions – such as temperature deviations or plant standstills – can be reacted to immediately.

Value for the customer

Using the Industry Connector delivers clear benefits:

  • Central data integration across different systems and protocols
  • Real-time availability of production data
  • Automated processes through triggers and events
  • Early error detection through integrated alarm mechanisms
  • High flexibility and scalability for future requirements
